Opening Hours on Verrazano-Narrows Bridge

Bridge over the Verrazano-Narrows: open or closed?

Here is all the information you require regarding the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge's operating hours, potential closure scenarios, and available detours:

The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is normally open around-the-clock, 24/7/365, with the rare closure brought on by necessary maintenance, repairs, or bad weather.

Conditions leading to closure: The bridge may be temporarily closed because of strong winds, a lot of snow, or other dangerous weather conditions. The bridge may occasionally be entirely closed, while other times it may only be accessible by a particular class of vehicle or have speed restrictions.

Alternative routes: Drivers can travel to and from Staten Island using the Staten Island Ferry if the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is blocked or limited.

Bridge History

From its completion in 1964 until 1981 the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world. But the idea for the bridge went back a lot before 1964, in fact some of the first serious proposals are from the 1950s when Port Authority of New York and the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority held a joint study on improving traffic flows in the area.
